Discipleship Ministry Continues

Even in the midst of a global pandemic there is good news to report!

One year ago HVG and our partners had just over 60 pastors and church leaders being discipled through our Foundation of Hope training curriculum. We have seen this number more than triple since last year with a significant increase in instructors who have started new discipleship groups in their regions.

Earlier this year we were invited to start the discipleship training with our first U.S. partner church. The leadership team at Mission City Church in Tracy, California gathered to study week one of the training as they prepare to roll out the material to their congregation later in the year.

Obviously, with travel restrictions and stay at home orders, the ability for our trainers to travel and hold classes has been put on hold. While they are disappointed, they are continuing to make plans for their existing groups and for the development of new groups once the restrictions are lifted.

We have also had the opportunity to witness our Uganda students minister to each other during weekly online worship services. So encouraging to see our students, missionaries and HVG team gather electronically to worship the Lord!

We are hearing incredible stories of how the good news of the gospel goes out even in these difficult times. Availability of food has become a problem in many of the areas where we serve. Many of our brothers and sisters are sharing the meager provisions they have and are being given the opportunity to share the gospel with neighbors, friends and family members even as they practice social distancing.

We are also exploring new ways to use technology for discipleship training in the future. This will allow us to reach more students and overcome the need for in person training should we find ourselves in this situation again in the future.

We appreciate your support for this aspect of the HVG ministry and look forward to seeing discipleship classes resume soon. Please pray for the health and safety of all our partners, their families and all those served by their ministries. May God bless you and protect you.
